Femto Lasik: Everything You Should Know About The Treatment

Eye surgeries have been evolving and becoming more popular than using eyeglasses and contact lenses. The main reason behind this is the control of eyesight worsening with these surgical treatments. Femto Lasik is one of the popular therapies among these procedures, with its higher efficiency and reduced healing time. This article will look into everything you should know about the Femto Lasik treatment.

About Femto Lasik
This is a type of laser eye surgery that is used to correct refractive errors in the eyes. Myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia are the main types of eye issues that can be fixed using this procedure.

Traditional Lasik treatment uses a tool to make a cut and create a corneal flap to reshape. Femto Lasik uses a laser to create the flap here, making a more safe and accurate process.

Ideal Candidates For The Treatment

To go through a Femto Lasik treatment, you need to meet a few criteria. Once you visit the eye clinic, the following information is collected to check your eligibility for the vision correction;

  • Older than 18 years
  • Stable vision for one year
  • Body conditions for proper wound healing
  • Corneal thickness
  • No history of refractive surgeries

Femto Lasik Process
Your eye specialist will place you in a reclining chair to begin the process. Eye drops are given to numb your eyes, and special equipment called eye speculum is used to keep your eyes open. The suction will be applied using a ring, and a glassless will be used to keep the eye steady.

Once the initial arrangements are completed, your eye doctor will use the laser to create a flap in the cornea. The suction is then released, and the flap is peeled back to start reshaping the refractive error. Your doctor will use an excimer laser with UV to resolve your existing condition.

Once the cornea is reshaped, the flap is placed back.  Generally, sutures are not required, and the flap will heal by itself. The process does not exceed 30 minutes per eye and is considered one of the safest methods to correct visual distortions.

Recovery Period
You may experience blurry vision, irritation, light sensitivity, and redness in your eyes after the surgery. Hence, it is recommended to take a family member or a friend to drive home once you have completed the treatment.

The symptoms can last for a few days, and your eye specialist will advise you on the follow-up care you need to take following the surgery. Eyedrops will be given to prevent infections, and you need to make another visit to the clinic within the next 48 hours.

An eye patch is provided to avoid involuntary touching and infection from dust and the surrounding environment. Strenuous activities, swimming, hot showers are a few things you need to avoid during your recovery period.

It can take from 3-6 months to experience the full effects of the Femto LASIK process. You may find vision fluctuations during this period and are required to have follow-up visits until six months.
